X replaces creator payouts with Original Content Rewards
August 8, 2026: X announces a new payout program for creators and retires the old one a month later.
What happened. X announced that Creator Revenue Sharing would close on September 7 and be replaced the next day by Original Content Rewards, TechCrunch reported. To qualify you need a paid X plan, 500 verified followers and 500,000 impressions in the home timeline from verified accounts over 90 days. X described the old program's incentives as "misaligned".
Three days earlier, Nikita Bier, who had fronted most of this year's anti-bot announcements, stepped down as head of product and stayed on as an adviser.
Why you care. X does not publish what the new program pays, so don't plan your rent around it. The name tells you what it wants to reward: your own posts.
What to do with it. Treat payouts as a possible bonus. The reason to grow an account is still the boring one: people who know what you do.
